Wembley School recognised for its motivational work with African Caribbean students
On the 4 October, Preston Manor students and staff were proud to attend the African Caribbean Education Services (ACES) 8th Anniversary Awards celebration, "Equipped to Achieve". ACES is a London not-for-profit organisation that has proactively engaged with Preston Manor School’s African Caribbean students.
The awards ceremony recognises the work of individuals and groups who help equip young people with positive cultural identity and the skills needed to succeed in education, employment and enterprise.
Ms Doniah Narh (founder of ACES) has been working successfully with Preston Manor for almost seven years. On behalf of Preston Manor, Angel Panford (Yr 11) received the School's award for "Outstanding contribution to ACES". The event, held during Black History month, prompted Andy Ward (Assistant Head at Preston Manor) to give a speech of thanks and appreciation to ACES. He described the organisation as one that is firmly committed to celebrating the achievements of past and present African Caribbean students.
The event was held at Central Hall, Westminster, with special guest Darcus Beese (CEO of Island Records). Former Preston Manor student, Jeziah Sinclair, spoke eloquently and confidently about the positive impact that ACES has had on his academic journey and eventual acceptance into university: "I am grateful to Preston Manor for allowing myself and other students the opportunity to work with ACES during our time at school".
Roland Champion School status 2013/14
Preston Manor’s Music Department is proud to announce that we have been awarded Roland Champion School status for 2013/14. During the academic year a range of pupils will be working with Roland and their music teachers to develop a series of original compositions that take as their starting point music and found sounds that are reflective of the music and cultures in our local community. In addition to this there are a number of other exciting benefits for staff, families and students.
