Welcome message

IT IS A PRIVILEGE to lead this successful and happy school and to work in partnership with such enthusiastic children and students, committed staff and supportive parents and governors. Our community is rightly proud of the school and its successes from the consistently high performance in public examinations to the wide range of enrichment activities we offer.

In our role as a specialist Science & Mathematics college, we aim to make science and mathematics accessible and exciting, by introducing children, students, teachers and our partners in the community to cutting-edge science, encouraging students to take up scientific careers and training research scientists as teachers. ICT is used to enhance teaching and learning and help children and students gain skills that would be required when they leave school, as well as facilitating efficient management and administration at the school.

We are also a Leading Edge School, working in an innovative and collaborative way with our partner schools to transform secondary education. We work with other schools facing different challenges to raise standards for young people beyond our immediate community, particularly in the critical area of literacy. The active participation of our staff ensures that they continuously reflect on their own practice and develop new approaches through their work with other committed colleagues.

Preston Manor is a very inclusive school. All children and students are treated as individuals and we are strongly committed to equality of opportunity. This ethos reflects the school motto, Munus Prae Jure, which dates back to our opening in 1938. It can be translated loosely as ‘Responsibility before rights’, or even ‘Do the right thing’.

Despite our past successes, we continue to seek new challenges and opportunities to help children fulfil their potential, both academically and socially, so that they leave us with the widest range of choices in a challenging society. We are very excited to be welcoming our first classes of primary age children now that we are an all-through school. We want every child to feel part of the school community but our primary provision has its own personality with specialist staff, separate buildings and dedicated play areas. Children who join Preston Manor in the primary phase can stay with us throughout their school career, making lifelong friendships and moving smoothly from one phase to the next. As places are guaranteed until 18 and siblings are prioritised in the admissions process, all family members will be able to attend the same school.

I hope you find this prospectus and our website both enjoyable and informative and are able to visit the school in person. I am confident that you will recognise our commitment to making school memorable by striving for excellence.
