Preston Manor’s Mission Statement sets out the ideals by which we wish to be judged. We aspire to provide all our pupils with an education which allows them to fulfil their intellectual, artistic and sporting potential, and which prepares them for active citizenship in wider society by teaching them to value themselves and others. The School’s Equal Opportunities Policy defines these goals as a moral issue as well as a matter of effective teaching.
Our pupils are entitled to appropriately differentiated materials and methods of teaching, so that all find learning stimulating and challenging and can fully develop their potential.
Our Assessment Policy plays a key role in furthering this aim by defining the means through which we judge the potential of individuals and monitor their progress, while the Behaviour Policy sets out the principles on which we build our learning environment, providing mutual respect and safety for all.
At Preston Manor we recognise the importance of every individual and what each contributes to our society. We have a common vision and sense of belonging, and appreciate, celebrate and value the diversity of our multi-cultural community.
All classrooms are fitted with interactive whiteboards and Personalised Learning is promoted through the use of ICT both at home and at school.
At Preston Manor, the teaching week is organised into 25 one-hour lessons, with additional time for registration and assemblies.
Students are grouped in a variety of ways for the purpose of optimising learning opportunities. This is mainly mixed-ability but with setting in Maths for Years 7 to 11, in Science for Years 9 to 11 and in Modern Languages in Years 10 and 11.
The vibrant Learning Resource Centre (LRC), run by a professional librarian on hand to support independent study, is well stocked with multi media resources.
