Visit from Leader of House of Lords - Baroness Evans (March 2018)

On the 23rd March, Preston Manor School warmly welcomed the Leader of the House of Lords, Baroness Evans and Bob Blackman, MP, and former Head Boy at Preston Manor School in the 1970s.  In addition, three local council candidates visited the school.

In addition to meeting the Headteacher, they were given a tour of the school by our current Head Girl and Head Boy.  They then had an audience with sixty A Level Politics students.  The main topic of discussion was whether or not the House of Lords should be reformed and what a reformed upper chamber might look like.  Baroness Evans also shared with students how she was contacted in 2014 by then Prime Minister David Cameron regarding her proposed appointment to the House of Lords.  Similarly, she spoke of how Theresa May asked her to become a member of her Cabinet in 2016.  The students greatly enjoyed the visit and valued the insights of the holder of this significant office within our political system.
